December 2013
Message from the Board
We hope you are enjoying the gates as
much as we are! We are happy that they
are operational again! As a common courtesy, please do not pull up to the
mailbox as you are exiting the community.
Also, the pedestrian gates need to be manually closed when you walk
through them. If you still need to program a remote for the gates, please email
Stuart at mnvikings1961@yahoo.com to
arrange a time to do that.
Have
a very, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

HOA
Dues
After having a reserve study completed
in April of 2013, it was recommended that we raise HOA dues to put into a
reserve fund. This allows us to prepare
for all future repairs and replacements.
As discussed at November’s community
meeting, we chose to raise dues in increments rather than all at once.
Dues for the 2014 year will now be $60.
To see a copy of the full study, you can request that by emailing the HOA
board.
Parking
on the streets
Our HOA has adopted the county rule
for no parking on the streets when snow is present.
(County Ordinance 11.20.130)
Any
vehicles parked on the street when there is snow will be towed at the owner’s
expense.
We strongly recommend that you not
park in the parking lots as this is causing issues for the snow plow to do its
job. Please use your own driveway as
much as possible to keep the parking lots clear for plowing.
Children
in Neighborhood
As a reminder, we have many children in
our neighborhood. Please be careful
while driving, especially when snow is on the roads.
Parents, please remind your children to
move to one side of the road when a car is coming.
We need to all look out for each other.
2014
HOA Meetings
We will continue to meet the second
Tuesday of each month for our monthly HOA board meetings at 7:30 pm. We post each month’s agenda and meeting
minutes on our community blog.
Our next community HOA meeting will be
held in April. If there is anything
specific you would like us to discuss, please email us your suggestions. We
will send out the meeting details later.
Shovel
snow safely
Stretch
first. Stretch thoroughly using the
same sorts of moves that runners use.
Stretch your hamstrings, back, and shoulders.
Don’t
move snow twice. Before you even take
your first scoop, decide where you’re going to dump the snow.
Move
snow the shortest distance possible. Consider
your driveway as a rectangle, and rectangles have a center point. Move the snow from the center of the
rectangle to the nearest edge.
Clear
cars first. Brush snow off cars and
then clear around the cars.
Maintain
proper posture. Use your leg muscles
as much as possible – push snow when you can and use your legs to lift when you
can’t push it.
Keep
hydrated.
Rest
frequently.
Don’t
overdress. You need to stay warm, but
if you overdress you’re going to be soaked in sweat in no time. Dress in loose-fitting layers that you can
peel off as you heat up.
Go
easy on de-icer. Once the area is
clear, all you need is a thin scattering of de-icer to keep it that way.
Stretch
when you’re done. Stretch gently when
you’re done and use an ice pack and ibuprofen to take care of inflamed muscles.
Tips
to help keep New Year’s resolutions
1.
Set realistic goals. And be more specific than just save money or
lose weight.
2.
Enlist help. Friends and relatives
can give you the extra boost you need to get you through the hard times. Ask someone to be your accountability friend
that you can check in with or have them check in with you.
3.
Create smaller resolutions. Don’t
focus too much on the end goal. Instead,
divide your resolution into easy to measure mini-goals.
4.
Celebrate progress. If you wait to
celebrate until the very end, you may be waiting a long time. Celebrate each mini-goal to keep you
motivated for the next step.
